Thoughtless Questions Hurt

Not everything that we do is easy. In fact, there are a lot of really hard things. There are hard tasks that we can't take the shortcut to and need to just do it the hard way for a high-quality product.

I overheard a husband and wife argue today. She was asking him very accusing questions of why he spent so much time on a particular task at work when he could do it "this easy way." He answered over and over again with different responses, but they all said this "It needs to be a high-quality product, the shortcuts that you are giving me with make it sub par product."

I am not a fan of the asking accusing questions towards a person who is working at making things great.
"Why are you doing this like _______"I don't understand why you always__________"Can't you just do it this way?"W The tone of these questions being asked is what gets me. They are often spoken in a way that communicates that the person speaking thinks your dumb and stupid for how you are proceeding.

Oh, the burn. I hate how it feels when people speak like this, especially to me.

I am all for doing things the easy way. But not everything is easy. The easy way isn't always the answer. There are times where I or you, or that person needs to decide to do things the complex, hard way because that is the best way to do it.
I am a little annoyed when I have to choose the hard, complex way because I see all the effort and time that I have to put into it. I often debate with myself if it is worth it if there is any way to do it differently that would make it work as well in the end.

It stirs my blood when people flippantly question that. They just see you doing a lot of work and see an easy way to do all that work and assume I am stupid for doing it the hard way. But they are stupid for not taking the time to consider that I have thought about my decision or all the things I had to sort through to get to the best process for the problem.
