#byetarget viral viewpoints

This week I have noticed that people have been upset with Target on social media with something with transgender bathrooms. I took the time tonight to see what was going on. Target has changed their policy where transgender individuals can now choose which bathroom they identify with "men" or "women" instead of the gender that they were born with. There are so many people upset about this. They do not want their children/wife sharing the same bathroom with a person of the opposite gender. The reason being that this is how people will become raped and assaulted. The hashtag #byetarget is huge. So many people are sharing that they are over target until this policy get changed.

Here is my thing, though. We do not police bathroom doors at all. There hasn't been a person who stands outside of the bathroom doors anywhere checking ID's of people ensuring that they are using the correct bathroom. At any point of any day, a person can choose to go into the other gender's bathroom. We have an honor code that men only use the men bathroom and women only use the women's bathroom. We do not enforce the rule. It is just something that everyone follows.

So transgender individuals can use the bathroom of their choose at target by their policy. But couldn't they do the same at any store's restroom? No one is stopping them; they can just walk in the door.

Wouldn't the punishment for rape and assault be the same if you are allowed in that bathroom or not? It is still wrong to attack people in a bathroom even if the sign says you are or are not allowed to be in there?

I truly do not know the law on this; I don't know if the transgender policy change changes any of the legal side of abuse.   I don't know if transgender in their choice of bathrooms will have any effect on the amount of rapes and assaults that happen in a bathroom. I feel like someone who is going  to cause harm and pain to another by rape/assault will not simply stop because they are in a room with a symbol on the door showing it is for "women only."

I think it is uncomfortable to have a transgender guy-to-girl, in the restroom with me, But I think I rather have "her" with me over a women transformed into a man.  I think the whole idea of sharing bathrooms with transgenders becomes uncomfortable. So every store that doesn't have three restrooms, are uncomfortable. We need to create "men" "women" and "transgender" bathrooms to please the crowds.

And really, I think people who are so mad at target for changing their transgender policy should turn their anger towards restrooms not having a person verifying each person's gender as they enter the rooms. I feel like that should be their biggest concern about keeping their kids safe.
